"We're a society with secrets, not a secret society",
said Jim Hendricks of Western Star Lodge of Champaign. That is a controversial statement nowadays because there are still plenty of people oblivious that Freemasonry is ancient and actual reality, not fabric of legends and occultism.
This very point has always been a direct consequence of the natural existence of symbolism and crypticism in the various lodges to protect their rites mainly, resulting in casting a lining of mistery on the whole society of Freemasonry.
Symbols have a primary relevance to every rite, and their power and what they represent is forged into rings and pendants, which are used to recognize the grade of enlightenment that the brother has achieved.

“Those degree pendants are unique as they differ from lodge to lodge, the rings instead are completely customizable and they are most commonly made out of silver and gold. They both have to be skillfully handcrafted to resemble the difficulty and importance of the path that we are walking” said G. Petrov, owner of MasonArtStore.

Now that we’re all on the same page, let’s move on to the top 5 masonic symbols:

#1: The cross of Lorraine

Cross of Loraine Masonic pendant. Handmade - Silver, Gold

The Cross of Lorraine symbolizes the original cross with the I.N.R.I. poster above Jesus’ head and it has been used since the crusades, where templars had been given permission from the patriarch of Jerusalem to wear and carry it in battle. Later on in history, it’s found again as a standard of Joan of Arc and the Dukes of Lorraine.
More recently it has shown itself again in France, as rampart for the insurgent movement against the nazist swastika in 1940, chosen by Admiral D’Argenlieu who wore it as a gold pendant on his chest.
In Templar symbology, it resembles the highest reachable degree, Inspector General AKA Sovereign Grand Inspector General for the Scottish Rite, Sir Knight Templar for the York Rite.

#2: Square and Compasses

handmade custom silver and gold masonic ring

Whenever you have stumbled upon this symbol, you immediately thought about Illuminati, but if you were asked what is really about, just a handful would actually answer correctly.
The main mistake that many people do is to identify one compass and one square in the symbol, not knowing that the compasses are actually two, circumscribing at each end both desires and passions. The square instead squares the action of the man by the square of virtue with all mankind.
In a more comprehensive way, they symbolize both the inner and the outer part of men, the outer being the mirror reflection we see every day and the inner as the complementary part of our body: our soul.

The compasses are strictly bonded with the soul part, while the square, due to its nature of angle measuring tool for bricklayers, represents the material side of us, that needs to be shaped until it reaches its "true" angle.

#3: Double-headed Eagle

Silver and Gold Masonic lodge ring. Double-headed Eagle ring.

Another widely used and common symbol in the Masonic world is the Double-headed Eagle, used to recognize the men of the Thirtieth Degree and that of the Grand Elect Knight Kadosh, or Knight of the Black and White Eagle depending on his lodge.
This banner landed in Europe in the 9th century, as a war booty, brought back by the French knights to Charlemagne’s court where it was consecrated as a relic and stored in the cathedral of Reims.
It represents the balance of judgment that every man has to have, and it does so because it has two heads, looking towards both sides of every question, suggesting to the man to think twice before answering.

Even the absence of shadows on the two faces means something: they are, reminding men and Masons that there is yet even "only light" for the pilgrim who travels East, facing the eternal sunrise itself.

#4: Eye of Providence

Silver and Gold All-Seeing eye ring. Handmade silver and gold Eye of providence ring

This symbol is the most common amongst the others, as it is the most linked to the conspiracy theories all around the world and also because of his presence on the dollar notes.
It consists in an eye inscribed in a triangle, surrounded by an aura of light and power and it’s the depiction of the eye of God that watches over humanity.
One of the many theories linked to it is the one that sees it on top of the unfinished pyramid which is supposed to be on the Great Seal of the United States, an important rubber stamp held by the Secretary of State. With that statement, conspiracy theorists are trying to put Masonry as the co-parent of the United States.

Here you can look at different patterns of Silver and Gold rings with a symbol Eye of Providence /All-Seeing Eye/. Also you can see Posters and Canvas with the same symbol.

Its origins are long lost in history, but its first traces can be found at the beginning of the Christian era, initially as just an eye, but later on, it was added the triangle to symbolize the intrinsic trinity. In modern times it can be found in both its shapes in the different Masonic "confessions".

#5: Boaz and Jachin Pillars

Boaz and Jachin Masonic ring

Just as many others Masonic symbols, the two pillars have a strong reference to the Temple of Salomon and each of them represents one of the two illustrious kings of Israel Solomon and David.
It may seem that there’s nothing to connect the two names, but this is not the case: Solomon’s second name was actually Jedidyah (beloved by God) and the name Jachin means “he who establish Yahweh”. Being Solomon the builder (the established) of God’s temples, he himself as the bible says, cast this name on his own pillar.
When it comes to the reference to David, there are no etymological connections to be found, yet the conceptual link is strong with this one.
David was Solomon’s father, and he was the mightiest military king of Israel. After defeating Goliath, the bible starts to refer to him as Boaz, strong.

Here you will find Boaz and Jachin jewelry as well as other rings with religious symbols

The two pillars, therefore, denote a union of two qualities that the faith should have, the strength and the will to establish, to expand.
The one message that we can understand from these lines is the reason why Freemasonry is considered to be a secret organization: there are plenty of meanings and shades to explore when somebody tries to have a broader knowledge about it, and it does take a seriously hard time to disentangle facts from myths, so that, when you get to know a few of those meanings, you have already become enlightened, and you can wear them to spread the light itself!
